Italy is still the number 1 wine producer in the world amid a fast-changing global landscape. The combination of price increase (+5% in 2014) and strong performance in overseas markets (+8% in 2014) should secure another increase in sales in 2014 for the Italian wine industry (+2% in both 2014 and 2015 after +3.1% in 2013). The sustained momentum reported by Italian wine exporters, (with extra EU exports increasing by +32% between 2008 and 2013 vs +18% for intra EU exports) will continue for those expanding outside the EU. For Italian wine businesses, the severity of non-payments increased in 2013 (by +50% on the domestic side and by +10% on the export side), echoing bigger risks associated with business expansions.
