Except for a rebound in 2010, Brazilian Food production has fared pretty poorly over the past 5 years, being at odds with the booming domestic economy and consumption in food products.

The foreign companies appeared to capture the lion's share of the growth in the Brazilian market of food products since 2008/2009 thanks to soaring imports. Moreover, they have stepped up their investments in Brazilian market.

In late 2000's, the Brazilian companies in food industry seemed to turn to investments in foreign markets to compensate a lower increase in exports.

Despite a lackluster domestic market but boosted by a rebound in exports, the Brazilian food industry stabilized in 2013 (volume). Many uncertainties linger for 2014.
